Meet the Teacher and D.E.C.E.

Meet the Teacher-Mrs. Kara Sadlon

My name is Mrs. Kara Sadlon and I grew up in Hamilton and attended school in the Hamilton Catholic District School board. I later graduated from St. Jerome's College at the University of Waterloo in 1994 with a degree in English Literature and History, then I completed my primary teacher education at the University of Western Sydney in Australia in 1995. My first teaching position was with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. After four years teaching in Hamilton, I moved up to Barrie to marry my husband and was thrilled to be hired by the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board in 2001.

During my 16 years with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, I have taught at seven different schools mostly in kindergarten and grades 2 and 3. I have been a teacher at Sister Catherine Donnelly School since it opened in 2003. Some of the school activities that I help to coordinate are: the SCD Phoenix co-ed hockey team (gr. 6-8), SCD Choir and the Spring Talent Show. I have a vested interest in this community as I am also a parent at SCD and regularly attend SCD Parent Council Meetings. My husband and I have one daughter in grade seven. We love to spend our free time reading, playing games, doing crafts and running around outside with our dog.

Meet the D.E.C.E.-Mrs. Terri Panico

My name is Mrs. Terri Panico and I grew up in Mississauga, where I attended school in the Dufferin Peel Roman Catholic District School Board. I then attended York University and graduated with a BA in English and Political Science. After York I attended Humber College where I completed my 2 year Early Childhood Education degree. I have been working with children for over the past 25 years. While I was in University I worked as an uncertified supply teacher for the Dufferin Peel Roman Catholic District School Board. I also worked for the Toronto District School Board during the summer months in their Summer Kindergarten/Early Primary Programs. I started working full time in childcare once I graduated College.

I moved up to Barrie about 10 years ago and I was hired as a supply ECE by the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board in 2012. I got a full time position at Sister Catherine Donnelly School in 2014. During my four years at SCD, I have had the pleasure to work with the same teaching partner, Mrs. Kara Sadlon. I truly love this community because I live in the general area, and I am also a parent at SCD. I have one daughter, who is 12, and in grade 8 this year! As a family we love to watch movies together, play board/card games, and travel.
